Saint Peter Cemetery
Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke County, Quebec

The cemetery is found in the older section of Sherbrooke on Prospect Street. There are many ways to get here. Here is one way. From the junction of King and Queen Streets, take Queen North. Cross Portland and continue to Prospect. Turn left on Prospect and the cemetery is at 1045 Prospect, on your right.

This is the cemetery for Saint Peter's Anglican Church. It is the oldest burial ground in Sherbrooke. Many old stones are hard to read and date from the early 1800's. Some stones had fallen or were tipped over and I understand from the caretaker that this is a problem as students frequently take shortcuts through the cemetery. Many of the early settlers for whom streets of Sherbrooke were named are buried here, such as Short, Brooks, Ball, Bowen, and Felton.

The cemetery is fenced and gated but the pedestrian entrance is not locked. As it is on a hill, walking around in the cemetery is not that easy although there are paved lanes. It is still in use today.

We recorded all monuments that we could read when we visited and walked this cemetery in July of 2005.
