Saint John Cemetery
Brome, Brome County, Quebec

Location: Stagecoach Road, Brome, Quebec

To reach this cemetery, take Autoroute 10 east from Montreal, or west from Sherbrooke, to Exit 90. Take Rte 243 south and then Route 215 south to the Village of Brome. Just after the intersection with Route 104 turn left or east onto Stagecoach Road. Watch for the church sign. The cemetery will be on the left side of the road beside the church.

This Anglican cemetery dates back to the late 1800s judging from the stones. It surrounds the Saint John Anglican Church in Brome. It is still in use, although the last burial that I know of was in 2005. The local archives are closed most of the time in the winter.

I have to admit that this listing is not as complete as I would have liked. There are many monuments that we were unable to read because they have been worn down to the point of being unreadable. It has been well taken care of, which is not an easy task, since it is situated on a hillside.

Marjorie-Anne Smith and I compiled this from all existing and legible tombstone inscriptions in Oct 2006.
