Libby Cemetery
Location: From the town of Compton take Route 147 North a few miles. As you start to go down the hill, keep an eye out for the cemetery on the left side of the road. If coming from Lennoxville, take 143 to 147 and continue past Milby. The cemetery will be on the right side of the hill near the top.
Notes: This burying ground is in the area known by old timers as Libby Hill. Today there is a busy highway and no place to park along it so one would have to drive into a farmer's yard and walk the short distance to the cemetery.
There is only one monument. All the names are inscribed on it. (The name on the sign is Libbey and the monument Libby). It is fenced and has a sign and gate but really no access road. The present boundaries of the cemetery are about 2/3 of the original size due to encroachment by the farm over the years. It is looked after by the Compton Pioneer Cemetery Association. If you have relatives buried here, please consider making a donation for its upkeep. Send contributions to Russell Nichols, 6280 Route Louis St-Laurent, Compton, Quebec, J0B 1C0.
I visited and read this monument in April 2006.
