This index is just a source - I do not have all of these books!

Please check the Lookups Page for the appropriate county or the History Book List for the book title to see if there is anyone who is willing to do lookups. You may also find many of the books at the Alberta Library Online and Public Libraries for the local areas.

As always, transciptions are prone to error, and you should check the source document yourself. Also remember to look for all possible spellings of the surname you are researching.

The Alberta Heritage Digitization Project has placed many Local History Books online with scans of the actual text. Be sure to check their listing of books online!!

This Local History Book Index of indexes contains 222,205 entries from 324 local history books.

There are literally hundreds of these books about Alberta communities with many thousands of personal and family histories. These histories often include the names of all family members, dates and places of birth, places of origin, maiden names, marriages, etc. giving the genealogist an invaluable resource.

Look at the individual book index on the county Digital Archives page for further information.

Check to see if there is a lookup volunteer for your family name by looking on the Lookup Volunteers page which you can also reach from the main Alberta GenWeb site. Also be sure to check the various County GenWeb Sites as they often have volunteers not listed on the Alberta GenWeb Site. Nearly all of these book indexes were donated to the project and I am unable to help with lookups.

Indexed for use in Alberta GenWeb Archives by Darlene Homme (see above Paragraph regarding lookups - I do not have all of these publications and am unable to do lookups).

Each text file listed below contains approximately 1000 entries and is about 50k in size.

The format is Last Name, First & Middle Name or Initials (when available), Maiden Name (when available), Local History Book Title, County Name.

Indexes already online are shown as "Yes*".
"No index" means that the book itself has no index and requires manual indexing. Books that still require index submission are shown in italics with "No". Any help adding to this list would be appreciated.
