AKERS, Dave Akers and his partner, Liver-eating Johnston, built the Spitzee Post, an early whiskey trading fort. The fort was destroyed by the Blackfoot soon after it was built. Akers was a whiskey trader until the NWMP arrived at Fort Whoop-Up in 1874 where Akers was in charge. He then went into ranching with a partner nearby. He shot his partner a few years later and ended up serving 3 years in the Fort Macleod jail.
