General Information

The Northern Gila County Genealogical Society is a non-profit, free standing, public service and research organization dedicated to the protection, preservation and dissemination of family and local historical information of Gila County, Arizona. The first meetings were held in 1975, and officers were elected in 1979 - 1980. The Society was incorporated in 1982. The daily operation oath NGCGS Library is solely dependent on dues, donations, sales of Pioneer Certificate, publications, and other fundraising activities. The Internal Revenue Service approved NGCGS a 501(c)(3) organization. The NGCGS is not affiliated with any religious group or any other organization.

The NGCGS Library benefits people living in the Payson (AZ) area by serving as a repository for the records of the lives of the people who lived there, and for local and regional history. Among the records available are:

The NGCGS currently is compiling a computerized database of its entire collection so that library patrons may more easily access the records available. The NGC Genealogy Society has helped authors find information for a book of local history; sent copies of newspaper articles of a local event to an out-of-state requester, helped local students prove Native American or Pioneer ancestry to qualify for scholarships, assisted a man in finding his long lost sister, and another locating his son, responded to many requests for information about people who lived here in the past, provided information on how to chart diseases which may be inherited.
